"Where Students Count!"
Welcome
Golden Feather Union Elementary School District (formed July 1, 1962 by Big Bar, Cherokee, Concow, and Messilla Valley) is a unique entity nestled in the foothills of rural Butte County. Total enrollment is fewer than 200 students. The district is comprised of three schools: Spring Valley Elementary (Kindergarten through Third Grade), Concow School (Fourth through Eighth Grade); and Community Day School. District employees are proud that our staff knows each student!
Golden Feather students experience a unique, well-rounded education that includes Conversational Spanish, Visual and Performing Arts (ceramics, art, dance, choral music) as well as fitness training. Concow School boasts an active Student Council which spearheads an ambitious program of events while Spring Valley students have the opportunity to participate in its own Student Council. Concow students participate in competitive sports through the Feather River Recreation League. In addition, a Spring and Fall water safety program is offered students at the district-owned swimming pool located on Concow Road. District staff and parents schedule numerous excursions to Oroville, Chico, and Paradise so that students are able to attend plays and performances. Specific grade levels travel to historical areas within the district boundaries to learn of the rich local history and heritage.
While many districts are coping with the growing state budget crisis by creating larger classrooms, Golden Feather will continue to offer classes with a 20:1 student-teacher ratio in grades K-3 and 25:1 student-teacher ratio in grades 4-5. Recently, the Concow Garden Club and the Golden Feather Parents' Club have collaborated to promote a gardening club for our students, known as the Rural Sprouts.
Parent Involvement
Parents are welcome to become involved in the activities of the Golden Feather Union Elementary School District. Spring Valley School appreciates the parents who volunteer in the classroom and the school. In addition to the daily classroom activities, Spring Valley parents are welcome to assist in the monthly Dragon Dollar store, where students can redeem their rewards for behavior and achievement. All schools solicit parent chaperones for school field trips.
Another opportunity for parents to partner with the teachers and staff of Golden Feather UESD is by serving on the Site Council, which is a committee comprised of staff and parents. Monthly meetings review the categorical funds budget and set goals for each school.
